PNOC EC PRACTICUM STUDENTS AWARDED BEST RESEARCH

Los Baños (16 May, 2019) – PNOC Exploration Corporation, the oil, gas, and coal exploration and development arm of the National Government was one of five organizations invited by the University of the Philippines at Los Baños (UPLB) to take part in the presentation of Practicum Research papers at the UPLB campus.

PNOC EC hosted two practicum students from the university at its coal facility in Zamboanga Sibugay from 5 March to 3 May, 2019. Aldwin Royena and Thea Dionio, both from the College of Human Ecology (CHE), were tasked to undertake an Impact Assessment and Community Needs Assessment of PNOC EC’s Social Development Programs for the stakeholders within its Coal Operating Contract 41 (COC 41).

Royena and Dionio’s research focused on the Women’s Organizations and the Indigenous Cultural Communities within COC 41. Their dual-focused research was unique among the five practicum teams and was awarded the Best Practicum Research by the CHE faculty panel led by Dr. Emilia Visco.

The results and recommendations from the research of Royena and Dionio will be taken into consideration by PNOC EC in its overall Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs moving forward.
